My head flopped back on the headrest as I stared out of the car window at another construction zone on I-81 in Pennsylvania.

Apparently, Pennsylvania has a raging hard-on for construction zones.

Letting out a loud sigh, I turned to my husband who cursed loudly at another drop in speed limit. He slapped the steering wheel and hit the brakes.

I contemplated opening the window and screaming into the cloudy, gray sky. But then I remembered I had snacks. My life had purpose again.

Reaching my arm to the backseat of the car, I pushed up on my tiptoes and hooked my finger through the handle of the snack bag. The bag that I had packed three days ago after a road trip snack shopping trip.

I couldn’t risk buying snacks from gas stations midway through our journey — what if they had shit snacks?

I pulled the bag onto my lap and unzipped it. There they were — my perfect snacks. They were the few that had made the cut after the initial brainstorming and ranking sessions. They complimented each other — sweet, sour, hot, mild, crunchy, smooth, and they completed me.
