This is a technique I learned in the forests of Borneo with the Slap-Slap Tribe of Middle Borneo. They intersperse slaps between hard and light, before putting you in the large black kettle above a raging fire, for dinner. The slaps are to ensure you are awake, and fresh, and to tenderise.
