Was this a joke he took too far or was he actually trying to scare you?

I wanted to be buried in the sand so I dug a hole, nice and deep so I could fit my whole body. My dad covered me up my neck so I could barely wiggle my head. He then walked off, got in his truck, and headed down the highway.
