When I lived in Charlotte, NC, I had a lot of work friends who were openly Trump supporters. When hurricane Helene hit this year, my Facebook feed was full of those people asking for support for those in need. Many of them worked their day jobs and then spent their nights driving back and forth to the mountains with supplies.

That week I really struggled to be on Medium. I really struggled to read people's articles in which they were calling Trump supporters disgusting names.

Segregating people by who they vote for is a slippery slope. Where does it end? Do we cut people out of our lives for liking a different ice cream flavor than us?

I agree with your conclusion. Respect and kindness are the only way out of the division and hate.
